Improving Mark Hedging support for Team-Based Learning
Mark hedging questions are a type of question in which students rather than selecting a single best answer, can spread or split the marks across all options available.
While LAMS has implemented mark hedging in TBL as part of a research project in 2014 with the Engineering and Medical faculties at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (see paper Byunhoon, Lee; Hock Guan, Ong; Redante Delizo, Mendoza), it has been — somewhat overlooked.
However, recently we reintroduce it to lecturers and they are willing to try the mark hedging question types as part of their TBL lessons.
Thus, LAMS is now making it easier to use these question type in main stream TBL.
For this we have improved the following
TBL Design Wizard
Now when creating TBL learning designs using the TBL Design Wizard, you are able to add mark hedging questions fairly easily. Just set the marks you want students to distribute and set the question to be of the mark hedging type

Confidence levels
You can also use mark hedging question with confidence levels. When doing so, students in the tRAT will be able to see their split mark allocation for all members in the team -just like you do with confidence levels in regular MCQs.
Importing Mark hedging question from MS Word
Last year we implemented the ability to import questions into LAMS using Microsoft Word. This feature very useful as teacher can add their questions with tables, images and formatting directly into LAMS’ question bank.
Now, the mark hedging questions are also supported in the Microsoft Word import template.
